@Mastodon if you ever consider rebranding, I don't think anyone else is using the name "Trunky" right now for anything. It's cute, it suits the theme, strikes me as sounding like a 'pack your trunk and go on an adventure' feeling,.. i feel bad harshing the vibe but the name "mastodon" hurts my face XD
@Cyclone_Dusk or at least a "stop showing me this rubbish" button for stuff that just gets boosted over and over
How to explain blockchain in plain English #blockchain https://enterprisersproject.com/article/2018/6/how-explain-blockchain-plain-english
if mastodon could just come up with a catchy snappy bouncy trochaic new name, its excellently intuitive interface and functionality would have FAR LESS FRICTION catching on. Because right now, the worst thing Mastodon has going for it is that it's called "Mastodon".
>>> ALL THOSE CATCHY SERVICE NAMES, Discord, Facebook, Hulu, Twitter, Snapchat, Youtube... they're all TROCHEES. https://xkcd.com/856/
also, for the record i love mastadon's functionality, but ...i'm sorry, its name just isn't good. Those three syllables are marketing suicide. People tune RIGHT OUT when I try to tell them, they never remember it when they (rarely) respond to conversation about it, and even i have trouble remembering! It's just... not catchy D: I wish it were. But it just ain't that kinda earworm name like Discord or Twitter or ... oh my god >>>
Idea: a crypto currency issued based on work done on RESEARCH PROBLEMS, that rewards users for contributing computing power to educational institutions. No inherent value is associated to the tokens, they're just abstract "points". People could be encouraged to buy them just to show their support for academic pursuits. Having them would be semi-tangible "geek cred" for the academic community.
I've had this weird random feeling of shame bothering me for a couple days now, which is weird because as a Furry AND a Brony, how the heck do I have any shame left at all by now!? XD
oh sweet celestia why does sleeping have to be such a pain in the ass x_x
"I strive to be the fan-patched version released several years after official support has ended."
"This could actually work well as a metaphor, since the fans are people who care about you and are dedicated to your wellbeing so you should listen to them in order to become a better person. That's my interpretation anyways"
This is what I believe too. <3

trying to launch a minecraft server, and thinking about creating a mastodon instance for community interaction instead of a forum o_o
and to be fair, yeah it's actually more complicated than that. Given that when a call comes in, the "button pushing" is actually me banging out notes for the call on my keyboard and then entering them into the relevant areas of the data entry system, then calling the relevant party to let them know ... but still, instruction-triggered button pushing all alone :D I LOVE THIS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Now, please bear in mind I ain't even a TINY bit sad about this, but I imagine lots of folks might find it odd that when I played The Stanley Parable, I *envied* Stanley for his job. I wanted to be able to report to work and push buttons on a console all day. And all of a sudden I realized that my new job is kind of that! I'M LIVIN' THE DREAM, BABY! :D like, i am legitimately happy to be all alone in this office waiting for the phone to ring and tell me which buttons to push :p
Working the graveyard shift... boy the nights get lonely sometimes. I'm grateful and pleased to be here and be serving a purpose to a good company, but dang i get feeling stir crazy sometimes. Doesn't it figure, how it goes...? Even if you get everything you ever wanted, there's always something else XD
Because, basically, you know people are just going to upvote things they agree with and downvote things they don't. Rather than telling us about the "veracity" of individual articles, it'll tell us about the moods and movements of whole segments of society. Then when experts in various fields see the ways people are getting stuff wrong the most, they can better TARGET their messages.
So how are y'all feeling about that #Pravduh idea elon musk is pitching? I for one think it will not do what he intends for it to do... but that it will have an interesting and useful effect. That effect being a tool that illustrates those 'bubbles', 'echo chambers', and 'hugboxes' that people all too frequently find themselves in. Giving us a better way to identify and engage with these self-imposed barriers. A mindfulness exercise for Society at large.
someone teach me how to make a mastodon theme so i can finally make good on my promise to una to make a Premium Garf theme for sleepy town
